New arrivals are a target for rental and travel scams. These are the basics that we ask every member of the community to follow.
Always inspect before paying
Inspect the room or property in person, or do a live video walkthrough where you can verify the address. Never pay bond or rent before you have seen the place.
If the rent is suspiciously low, walk away
Scammers post listings well below market rate to attract desperate applicants. If a price feels too good to be true, it almost always is.
Use the platform's contact gate
Other users contact you through your account, after they have logged in. Listings that ask you to message them on WhatsApp, Telegram, or Instagram are a red flag.
Pay through legitimate channels
Bond should be lodged with the relevant state authority (e.g. NSW Fair Trading Rental Bonds Online). Never wire bond to a personal account, and never use cryptocurrency.
See something off? Report it.
Every listing has a “Report this listing” button. Our moderation team reviews reports daily and can pause or remove a listing while we investigate. Reporting is anonymous to the lister.
